The Orange County Education Foundation recognized Thomas E. Short for his long-time support, service and leadership to education in Orange County during its “Celebration of Education” event Sunday, August 23, 2015 at James Madison’s Montpelier. A local school administrator for 35 years, Short said he was honored and a little shocked to be chosen as this year’s recipient of the OCEF Lifetime Contribution Award. OCEF President John Reid said, “Mr. Short was chosen because of his dedication and commitment to the education of students in Orange County. He is well known for his high standards for himself and his faculty.” Sunday, Short said he accepted the honor on behalf of those in the room–parents, teachers and administrators–who worked just as hard as he did to educate local children. “You are the reason I am up here today,” he said. “For me, it was the journey. It was meeting the buses, learning the children’s names, spending time in the hallways of the schools with children and faculty and trying to understand how my time could help.”
