Celebration of Education

Since 2012, the Foundation has held an annual “Celebration of Education” event honoring an educator who has made a significant impact on the students and community members of Orange County.

Celebration of Education - Carolyn Herndon and Betty Almond

2022 – Carolyn Herndon and Betty Almond

A Lifetime Contribution Award was presented to Carolyn Herndon. Carolyn, a retired kindergarten teacher taught generations of OC students and has at least seven of her former students currently teaching in the county.

2019 – Judy Peterson

The Orange County Education Foundation (OCEF) honored longtime music teacher Judy Peterson with its lifetime contribution award at its August 25, 2019 Celebration of Education at The Pavilion at Lakeland Farm on Route 15 in Orange.

2018 – Frank and Bernice Walker

The Orange County Education Foundation honored Frank and Bernice Walker at its Aug. 19 Celebration of Education at The Pavilion at Lakeland Farm on Route 15 in Orange.

2017 – Carol Hunter

The Orange County Education Foundation held its annual Celebration of Education on Sunday, August 20, 2017.

2016 – Ernestine Reid

The Orange County Education Foundation recognized Ernestine Reid for her long-time support, service and leadership to education in Orange County.

2015 – Tom Short

Thomas E. Short was awarded a Lifetime Contribution Award for his work as an educator in Orange County.

2014 – Dr. Frank Turnage

Dr. Frank Turnage, Germanna Community College President Emeritus, was honored on Sunday, August 21, 2014 at the Orange County Education Foundation Celebration of Education.

2013 – Joseph Y. Rowe

Longtime educator Joseph Y. Rowe was honored Aug. 25, 2013 as the second recipient of the Orange County Education Foundation’s (OCEF) lifetime contribution award.

2012 – Murcelle Coleman

The Orange County Education Foundation bestowed a lifetime achievement award to longtime Orange County educator Murcelle Coleman on September 30, 2012 during the foundation’s first first ever Celebration of Education held at James Madison’s Montpelier.
