John R. Hawse Memorial Scholarship

Criteria: Available to one student; attending a four year university to study a science-related field; based solely on academic merit and for recognition of excellence in science.

Amount: $1,000

John Hawse, a native of Virginia, spent 27 of his 30 years in education at Orange County High School. John completed his undergraduate work at the University of West Virginia and his graduate work at the University of Virginia. During his tenure at Orange County High School he taught Chemistry, Aerospace Science, general Science and was the assistant principal for eight years. John’s smile was always the first thing both students and visitors saw when they were at Orange County High School. His wife Barbara and children John and Jaclyn wished to honor his love for Science and education through the John R. Hawse Scholarship.
